9. What are the policies and regulations for purchasing DJI drones in different countries?
The purchase of DJI drones is primarily subject to three major policy constraints: import control, sales licensing, and pre-requisite real-name registration. There are significant differences across countries: the United States has the strictest restrictions (some models are banned from sale/new imports), the European Union has unified access requirements but requires registration, China requires real-name registration before flight, and some countries have a complete ban on sales.
Comparison of purchase and access policies in core countries/regions
United States: From December 2025, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will prohibit the new import/sale of foreign drones with cameras or networking capabilities (including mainstream DJI models), with the only exemption being pure toys weighing ≤150g and without cameras/networking capabilities. Purchased devices can continue to be used, but new models cannot be approved for import. Federal agencies are prohibited from purchasing such drones.
EU: There is no purchase ban, but all drones must be classified by weight under the EASA framework (<250g falls under the "A0" category, >250g requires online registration); after purchase, they must be registered with the local civil aviation authority and labeled; commercial flights require obtaining an EASA certificate (mutually recognized by member states).
China: Free purchase is allowed, but according to the "Interim Regulations on the Management of Unmanned Aircraft Flight", all drones must be registered on the "Comprehensive Management Platform for Civil Unmanned Aircraft (UOM)" before they can fly;
Micro/light aircraft do not require a license, but approval is needed for flying in controlled airspace.
Canada/Australia/Japan: Available for purchase, but mandatory real-name registration is required (with thresholds often starting at 250g or 500g); flights are prohibited in some areas; commercial use requires operator certification.
Countries with special restrictions: North Korea, Cuba, and some Middle Eastern countries may directly prohibit the sale or restrict the carrying of such items into their territories; Russia requires additional filing.
Switzerland: Purchasing is not restricted, but for flights exceeding 500g, a liability insurance of one million Swiss francs must be purchased to ensure legality.
Key precautions
Purchasing ≠ flying: Most countries require "registration before flying". Even if it is legally purchased, flying without registration is illegal ("unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) flying without permission").
Battery carriage: When traveling internationally, lithium batteries (typically <100Wh) must be carried on board and cannot be checked in; the specific quantity is subject to airline regulations.
Dynamic changes: U.S. policy is currently in a period of strategic adjustment (with partial exemptions for toy categories in 2026). It is essential to consult the official DJI flight guidelines or the latest announcements from the local civil aviation authority before traveling.
Data compliance: Some countries (such as India and certain European cities) have additional restrictions on the cross-border transmission of aerial photography data. When purchasing industrial drones, it is necessary to confirm software compliance.

Attentions:  Before making a purchase, Please carefully considering well . Don't make the wrong purchase.
